This stunning wrap dress from the Resort 1977 collection goes against Halston's normally solid color palette. Where it is still definitively Halston is in how it employs that minimal seaming that Halston excelled at. The shoulders are rounded and the cut loose. The looseness is offset by the sexy wrap cut that allows for a dramatic front plunge. The waist can then be cinched with the long sash that comes with the dress. In the Phaidon Halston book there is a quote by Bob Colacello that states "His colors were so American, they were like out of a Crayola crayon box. Halston's red and purple and green were like true colors; they weren't pastels, they weren't dark, they weren't iridescent - they were very true and very American". Every time I look at pieces from this collection I cannot help but think of that quote. It is not perfect so please read the details below carefully, but it is very very fabulous and chic and still perfectly wearable. Presents as excellent condition
Unlined and wraps to close with hook and eye at the waist. Has it original long sash belt. The silk under each arm was weakening so I had it reinforced and backed by a professional seamstress - please see the photos. There is the tiniest bit of discoloration to the white here and there and a couple of small spots on the silk (effectively covered by the tie belt once on) but nothing that overly detracts - these are all apparent when lying flat and inspecting but when on the pattern keeps you from seeing these small defects. One pin hole in the back that I have had a stitch in to secure. Hand finished interior.
